Debate: What is the Biblical View of Social Justice?

Is social justice intrinsically Marxist? Should we think about social justice as opposed to an orthodox view of the Gospel? What should social justice look like? How should we think about justice in the context of the civil realm?

Doug Pagitt, pastor, author, and emergent thinker at the forefront of considering social justice as a Christian Enterprise debated our own Dr. Joel McDurmon, a theonomist whose understanding of Old Testament biblical law has great bearing on this question.

This debate was hosted by First Lutheran in Houston, TX on October 24, 2019.

Perhaps the most significant issue in the last 30 years for the Protestant Church is the place of social justice in the Christian Worldview. Is "social justice" a demand of the Gospel? Is it close to the Gospel itself? Just what exactly are the biblical parameters for understanding justice?
